Come on down to Honduras!

The number of tourists visiting Honduras has bottomed out. The political crisis has taken a big toll on the travel industry. However, and despite all the travel warnings and advisories discouraging travel to Honduras, I must say that this is the best time to visit Honduras. Discounted fares, hosts willing to go out of their way to make sure you have the time of your life, un-crowded ruins, beaches and reefs are all waiting for you to enjoy.

Throughout the country there is peace and calm, and the roads are all open, making it easy to go from one city to the other. Whenever there are protests, these are limited to the capital city, Tegucigalpa and very, very occasionally to San Pedro Sula. The tourist destinations of Copan Ruinas, Tela, La Ceiba, Utila, Roatan, Trujillo, Guanaja, Lake Yojoa and Southern Honduras are far away from the political scene and at their best.

As far as the weather is concerned, this has been an “el niƱo” year, and its effect on Honduras has been less rain than normal. This means that the weather, which can be very rainy, especially on the North Coast, has been extremely pleasant, with lovely clear blue skies during the day and an occasional shower early in the evening. Nice warm weather and a lovely sun to tan your skin and cool nights to sleep well.

Take advantage and visit Honduras, you will really enjoy it!
