Tours and trips from Villas Pico Bonito

Here is addition information on the tours section of the Villas Pico Bonito web site.  

Hiking.
There are plenty of places to hike to and from around the Lodge.  There are 3 that are within minutes of the resort  The El Bejuco waterfall is a 4 hour round trip.  It requires a $7 (120 lempiras) payment to cross the suspension bridge.  You can also cross on a cable in a cable car if you wish!  Guides are not needed for the hike.  Inquire while here about other hiking destinations.  If you need a guide for birding, guides are available, check with us for pricing.

Rafting,
is available from several different companies  You can book trips while you are here.  Cost $59 (cheaper options available).  Trip time depending on river conditions 3 to 4 hours.  Other possibilities are white water swimming, kayaking in both hard and inflatable kayaks.  Training in kayaking disciplines and more complex and technical river trips.
Additional information.  This is general information, each rafting company is slightly different, we work with them all.

a. Hours 8:30am to 12:00pm morning trip, 2:00pm to 5:00pm afternoon trip.  (Omega requires check in at 8.30 am and 12 pm, they provide a generous spaghetti lunch before or after rafting depending on time of trip.)
b. Snacks: fruit, iced tea, water
c. Supplied equipment: Life jackets, helmets, paddles, first aid, rescue equipment, rafts, a vehicle is available throughout the trip.
d. Professional English speaking guide with each group.
e. Participants: Min 2 pax Max. 30 pax.
f. Quick Rating: Low River with Class II and Class III, High River III and IV water in extreme conditions make two trips to compensate for time. Minimum age: 8 years with their parents.
g. Visitor Checklist: TEVA sandals or tennis shoes, shorts, shirts, insect repellent, sunscreen, towel, extra clothes dry. Do not wear jewelry. Consider wearing paddle wetsuit or jacket during cold fronts.

h. Release. All participants sign a liability release.
 

Birding,
All around the Lodge is excellent with many different varieties of birds here at different times of the year.  Off site trips can be arranged, cost around $90 for a long day with an early start.


Yoga and Thai massage,
Both are available next door.  The cost for a session of either is $45.

Cayos Cochinos 
Snorkeling, swimming in a pristine environment.  Fun boat ride out and back.  Leaves at 7.30am from the beach at Sambo Creek, returns around 2 pm.
4 persons is $39 per person, usually there are more people booking from other resorts so, generally, not a problem for 2 persons.  If not then $60 per person for 2 people.  Round trip from lodge, if needed, is $50 for the van.

Motorcycles
Ride to mountains and rivers $65 including bike and guide.  4 hours.  Dual Sport Motorcycle rentals 110 cc $35, 200cc $45 per day, helmet and gas included.

Mountain bike rentals.  Latest mongoose models with full suspension. $15 per day.  


Mountain biking 
Trips up the mountain along the river valley by truck and cycle down.  (one serious hill climb). $55 per person including bike & helmet.

Zip Lining
2 locations, one next door and the other off site.  The Canopy Tour is the longest zip line with the most cables.  It also includes a visit to the hot springs.  Located 45 minutes from here, $45 entrance fee per person.  Van $75 for up to 10 persons if needed.

Horseback riding in the Jungle $75 per person.  4 hours.  Start time is 10 am.  Were long pants and bring swim suit for a dip if you like.

Cuero y Salado, Rio Zacate and Cacao Lagoon.
These are all off site trips   Here you can see wild life of many species, Birds, Monkeys and Manatees.  Trips are offered by a variety of companies.  $75 dollars per person, depending on company, more for Cuero y Salado.  Trips start at 9am usually last 4 hours.  Below are general comments regarding Cacao and Rio Zacate (Canoe paddled by guide available at Cacao).  Cuero y Salado is very similar but uses motor boats not kayaks.  In addition you can use a taxi to get to this park independently or book a tour with an operator.

a. Hours 7:30am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 5:00pm
b. Snack: Fruit and iced tea. Take a water bottle.
c. Equipment: first aid, cell communication, life jackets.
d. Head guide is a professional bilingual naturalist for each group.
e. Kayaks for clients to paddle. Single or double seat Kayaks available. For tour, Min 2 pax Max. 10 pax.  Two trips per day.
f. Tour Difficulty: For all ages in wooden canoe. Children 10 and over in single kayak.
g. Checklist and clothing suggestions: TEVA sandals or sneakers. Long pants or shorts, shirt, insect repellent, sunscreen, lightweight waterproof anorak if cold or wet, binoculars, small backpack and plastic bags, water bottle. No bling, bring Camera!

Outward Bound Trips
There are a number of trips that involve camping in the Jungle overnight.  They involve tough jungle hikes, primitive camping conditions and are for the very adventurous and stout of heart. Cost dependant on the number of nights and destination but budget at least $200 per person.
